I know what you’re thinking. Two Comic Cons in a month, you really are obsessed. We are maybe getting there but I don’t think we have quite earnt the title yet. When I was not interested in Comic Cons, I did not realise how many there were in a year, and that is just in Yorkshire. There are loads. Which we don’t mind, really, due to us enjoying them.
The main reason we decided to visit this Comic Con, apart from Ginger’s and my brother’s obsession with Star Wars, was that it was free. Yes, you heard me, FREE. Now there is an incentive to check out anything. Everyone loves a bargain but when something is free, you’re silly to turn it down. It even enticed my dad and he decided to come with myself, Ginger and Tom (my brother) to check out what it was all about. This will not be too long of a post, simply due to the event itself not being very long.
The Hull Comic Con 2018 was situated at Trinity Market. We were not sure what to expect from this Comic Con seeing as we had never been before and the fact that it was free. The Market was pretty easy to find and was only a short ten-minute walk away from the train station. We found most of the stalls in the courtyard outside of the market. However, there were a few stalls inside the market itself and even some in the church (or chapel, I’m not 100% sure which it is, I apologise greatly).
We were pleasantly surprised
There were much more stalls than we anticipated and the Cosplay was amazing! My dad loved it and couldn’t believe the effort and how realistic some of the costumes were. I mean don’t get me wrong, this Comic Con had maybe a fifth of the stalls than at the Scunthorpe and York Comic Cons but for free, you can’t really go wrong.
Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers patrolled the streets of Hull
The stalls themselves only took us maybe half an hour to get around and there was nothing that stood out to either Tom or Ginger. No-one purchased anything, unfortunately. However, there were plenty of transactions being made. It all depends on what you are looking for and what is on offer. I also was delighted to meet a pirate, complete with a real parrot! How cool is that?!
The Cosplay was the highlight of the event
We were only at the Comic Con event for about an hour at most but we did enjoy the day even though it was not a long one. I would recommend attending one of the District 14 Hull Comic Cons and is a perfect one for a starter attendee due to it being free. What have you got to lose?
